I stumbled, literally, onto this guy today while walking through some nearby woods adjacent
to the Edmonds Marsh. Out of a bunch of shots, this one had the best pose and ha, I thought. There are some grayish areas over the tail caused by the brush I was shooting through. I also tried my better beamer again - I think it did help the highlights and catchlight.

Thanks for taking the time to look in and comment :)

You sure made the best of your shooting situation as this really is nice showing the feeding behavior of this bird and the angle is not to steep. Very nicely done Terry
You can try some local contrast enhancement on the area near the tail and right side (mask it) to cut through the OOF look. Can't always get rid of it but it can help.
The beamer helped you to get detail on the back better and evened out lighting well.
Hi Terry I like this image with the Woodpecker and the habitat. Certainly looks as if he has been working on that chunk of wood. Nice detail and exposure.
Well done Terry. Looks like you are putting the beamer to work . Good to see the pileated down this low giving you a good angle. Well done.
ps. hunting season just ended I believe, so you're gonna have to go after the short ears

Thanks very much, Todd. Yes, time to check out the North Fork again for owls.
Last time I was there, about two weeks ago - very quiet, and no signs.
