Default Hermit Thrush enjoying a light snowfall.

This overwintering fella looks very healthy and plump with the fluffed-out feathers to keep warm. It obligingly posed on this perch for a few minutes before hopping back down on the snow to scoop up some left-over suet debris (surely thanking the woodpeckers for the easy meal!). Very active and alert in its demeanour - a good sign.

Canon 40D + 100-400L @400mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/200s., f/6.3, ISO 800 (settings histogram checked), natural light with the snow a couple of feet below acting as a natural light reflector, handheld.

It looks hunkered down and staying warm very nicely captured Daniel.

Sweet pose, wonderful complementary BG, and the snowflakes on its head really add a nice detailed touch.

    Well done.

Snow adds a lot to the image. Perch running mostly in the plane of critical focus looks sharp and undistracting.

Cool curved perch Dan, and I like how he's keeping his feet warm. The BG colours are so complimentary, and just love the hint of falling snow.

Subtle and sumptuous. The uplighting works perfectly with the subject.

Love the feeling of this one and the snow is a huge plus. He looks like a little puff ball that you just want to hold in the palm of your hand.

Super shot Daniel, I really like the complimentary a yet muted colours and the pose clearly indicates his purpose of keeping as warm as possible - great shot, you always seem to capture that little bit more than a straight portrait..

That's so beautiful, Daniel. You sure captured the cold here. Love the snowflakes both in the air and on the bird. And the colours are simply lovely.

The upturned head and angle is very appealing.
Love the sprinkling of snow on the bird's head.
