Used content-aware fill and clone brush to remove some extraneous branches. One disadvantage of low contrast light is it is more difficult to capture fine details since the very small shadows that help define in them in brighter light are subdued or absent. Comments and critique welcomed. regards~Bill
Such a beautiful image, Bill! I think it's pretty darn perfect. If I had to get super picky and say something to work on I'd say that I'd like to see the yellow of the eye be as bright as the yellow on the feet.
There does seem to be a weird shadow around part of the bird - a little grayish purple line around the right side and the lower left side. Any idea what that's from?
Thanks Julie. I don't see the grayish purple line on the jpeg, but it could be my monitor. Often when I use the the clone-stamp tool I use an inverted selection to protect areas I don't want to touch and with content -aware fill I make a selection around the area I want to "fix" by using the polygonal lasso tool, then edit/fill set to content-aware. Note: you need CS5 for content aware fills, and although it doesn't always work too well, often it is amazing.
Anyway, the selection borders are likely what causes the problem, and maybe something to do with the way refine edges is set up. I'll check it out further with the full sized image. regards~Bill
Thanks Steve! I'll make a suggestion for you. It would have been nice if the bird had been a bit lower,( a less steep viewing angle) and the head tilted more toward the camera. regards~Bill
I like how you have isolated the hawk from whatever extra vegetation there was. I can't see the shadows Jules is referring to either, but I use a laptop so a better monitor may show more.
I wonder if adding some black to the whites would bring out a bit more detail lost in the flat light.
