Had my 1st go at some flying short eared owls this weekend. This one was shot in the early morning overcast. Thanks for looking.

    Hi Mike:

You had such an awesome subject here. It's too bad the light wasn't a little better. I think you did well with exposure, and your bird looks nice and sharp.

I am not sure how much you cropped this picture, but if not too much, I think it could use some canvas off of the left and top to give a little more attention to the gorgeous owl.

Looking forward to seeing more of this owl!

    Michael:

Glad you got to have a go at this fellow. I like being able to see the dorsal side of one wing and the ventral side of the other, to see the patterns. This view really shows what a large wingspan this fellow has relative to his body also.

I think the image could go 1/4 to 1/3 of a stop brighter.

Because the sky is pretty featureless, if the image quality will allow, I might crop a bit tighter.

    Cheers

    Randy

Beautiful subject - I'm still waiting for my first go with this species. I like the eye and tans of the wing adding some colour here. If the IQ can withstand it I agree with a tighter crop, if not then I would prefer the bird be higher in the frame rather than lower.

I like the soft, sweet light. A bigger crop is the way to go if it can take it. IQ looks pretty good.

    Michael,

To expand on the crop suggestion I suggest a pano cropping from the top. Leave bottom and sides as is.

Nice wing position for the reasons mentioned.
