    Default Comb Duck

Photographed at a waterbird refuge where I was able to get reasonably close. The fleshy comb is enlarged in breeding adult males and is very much reduced during the non breeding season.

50D/EF500f4/1/2000 @f4/iso400 - Beanbag, FF cropped on top and added canvas at the bottom for comp.

    C&C allways welcome.

Good detail coming through and whites handled well. Slight dodging of the midtones in eye brings out the color nicely adding to this nice portrait. Well done.

Nice detail in the head and bill. I think a smaller aperture would bring out more detail in the neck.

Neat, I see a second face in the bill!! Good portrait overall, but a better light angle would have avoided the shadows on the face and neck. The added canvas at bottom looks good, but just be careful of the edges...notice the top half of the neck's edge is sharper than the bottom half (especially in front).

Wonderful portrait of this not so handsome bird. Nice fluid BG.

What color? Wonderful bird and detail. Is this non-breeding? And the COMP is right on with the bird well back in the frame.

Pieter, well placed in the frame, and you have captured great detail on the bill. Well done on extending the canvas.

Thanks all for your comments, much appreciated.

Todd thanks the eye needs a little more colour.

Arthur this is a breeding male.

Daniel you're right but not a face to meet on a dark night and yes to the edges on the neck area.
