This is a wild yet habituated colony in the Makgadikgadi Pans. We spent a whole day with them. It was difficult to get them standing still as they were always on the run, looking for food. Nikon D3s 70-200VRII taken at 280mm. 1/125sec at F10, -0.3Ev ISO200.

What with Steve C, Hilary and now yourself Vivaldo, within the past 24hrs there are some fantastic images being posted here and certainly the content, quality and overall photography is raising the bar.

This one is is simply perfect IMHO, a real pleasure to look and view, would love to have this one myself.

    Big congrats.

Very nice Vivaldo. Nice exposure and just the right amount of motion blur but sharp where it needs it. Would love to have this in my files as well.

Superb image Vivaldo! Not the usual Meerkat-standing-on-2-legs pose, this gives a lot of character to the image of these swift creature. Great background, sharpness at the right place. Absolutely love it!

Nice action and I like the blur in the image. Great job in keeping the eye sharp as well.

Extremely well done. A very pleasing blur. Curious as to what the white line is across the rear hip and if it is an artifact or from the blur. If possible, you might consider fixing it.

This is really wonderful, you've captured so much of the meerkat which makes it unique and kept the eye clear and sharp. Love the colours and the tonal range of the image.

One question … you've used the 70-200 at 280? Is this a misprint or did you have a convertor on.

    Vivaldo,

Definitely not a "run of the mil"l Suricate shot

I agree with Rachel on running a fix on the white streak on body looks very weird close up, but is preseumably grass?

Did you selectively sharpen the head?

Thanks for all comments and suggestions. I will relook at the image later, the lines are most proberly caused by sun reflection and sharpening made the streaks look worse. I would say that the streaks are both grass and on the meercats body. Ken I did apply selective sharpening on the meercats head

Very effective! Slow SS works very well in here. Would define the catchlight a bit more.

Excellent shot Vivaldo. One of the best (and sharpest) panning animal shots I've seen. Well done
