    Default Lily

This is a lily I cut and brought inside to photograph using a white background. After following Denise's "mini worlds" instructions, Nik bi-color, tonal contrast and sharpening filters were applied.

[Oops, I now see why this challenge is called mini worlds. It seems I should have used a subject that would have filled an entire frame so as to create a "world" with the distortion filter. I thought I could edit out the weekly theme part though it seems I can't. So Denise, please remove this image if it doesn't fit the theme... sorry.]

    Equipment used:

    Olympus E-3
    Digital Zuiko 14-54mm f2.8-3.5 @44mm
    2 sec @ f20
    ISO 100
    Tripod

Not sure how it was done , but i am loving this. Abstracts are tough to pull off , and this one is a fine image. Love the effect.

Quite striking and elegant. I am thinking that this could be viewed nicely with several different rotations. It almost looks as if it is upside down....

I love what you've created here. I think it would be sad to have this removed just because it didn't fit neatly into this week's theme. Thanks for sharing.

Dawn, Where did you ever get that idea from??? Posting to the weekly theme is completely optional....

Richard, This is wonderful and fits the theme perfectly. I love the sharp details and imagine the base image is gorgeous! This came out spectacular!!!!

Dawn, If it didn't fit the theme only the words "weekly theme" would come down from the post not the entire post.

This is one striking image, I love the way the colors change as it goes along the leaves and effect, I'll have to look through my flower images and try one of these. Very well done

Richard, this is a beautiful mini-world. The colors and crispness of the lily are wonderful

Beautiful PP Richard. Loved the effect here. Works very well with the lily. Not filling up the entire 'circle of mini-world' is what makes this image for me.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and comments.

Artie - Are you saying you find the upside down look objectionable? I kind of like the way the composition balances as it is though I'll experiment with different rotations. Thanks for taking the time to look and for your critique.

Hey Richard, I did not say that anything was objectionable :)

Here is what I said, "Quite striking and elegant. I am thinking that this could be viewed nicely with several different rotations. It almost looks as if it is upside down...."

Now, I do not know how these flowers actually grow so perhaps my comment was made in ignorance.... But certainly nothing objectionable in a beautiful image, at least not for me :)

    Artie,

Thanks for that "quite striking and elegant" part... that's very kind of you.

When you wrote "I am thinking that this could be viewed nicely with several different rotations. It almost looks as if it is upside down", I thought maybe the upside down look bothered you and you were suggesting that I try rotating the image. It is indeed, upside down. And if it bothered you I wanted to know as I'm interested in your opinions and why you feel the way you do.

    Thanks for clarifying your point.

    Richard

You are welcome X2. Do you know how the flower is oriented when in bloom?

This was cut and brought inside to photograph as shown below. I've seen them orientated this way though usually the stamens are around the 3 or 9 o'clock position.
