I love Willets in flight; these plain looking birds become transformed when they take off. And you caught it beautifully - great wing spread and head turn, wonderful detail and background. Another beauty, Jim.

Another beauty my friend! If anything would move the bird slightly more to the right.

Spectacular image. Exposure, details, comp (from horizontal?) all look good. Great work.

I agree with all of the comments made above, except moving the bird further to the right; this is great. But I think that if the image were mine, I might take a bit of canvas off the bottom and add a bit at the top if the file data permit it. I say that because the bird appears to have a bit of an upward flight orientation, and I'd thus give it more space above to fly into.

One thing I see that arguably does not make a positive contribution to the image is the dark structure below the mid-point of the trailing edge of the tail feathers, which I presume may be a foot. I would probably clone that out.
But what I further find impressive is the feather definition you've captured throughout the tonal range! Thanks for sharing this image with us.

What's to say? Perfect dorsal view showing all the intricate plumage, and a perfect eye to boot! Education and beauty together. If I had to quibble I would crop a tad off the bottom to make it even with the top and left.

James, excellent photo! The background is excellent and the exposure and focus on the subject are spot on.
