Tight crops of a complete bird usually don't work too well, in my opinion of course, but in this case(of a white ibis landing), with the somewhat geometric outline, it seems to. I would be interested in other points of view. It was a cold and rainy day, and relatively dark. I blurred the background in PS. Comments and critique welcomed. regards~Bill

very nice! I like the birds concentration as well...see lots of these in the marsh .. clearly its focused on something like its next meal. Hope that's Louisiana crawfish so many of your birds on your website are enjoying:D..many terrific shots that provide inspiration on what to look for, technique and patience. not only are these birds beautiful, but love seeing their predation

Thank you very much Steve! I don't if you know it but those big red Louisiana Crawfish are not native to Texas. Mostly we have smaller ugly brown ones, although I occasional see small red ones too. Brazos Bend State Park is close to where there was once a crawfish farm that raised Louisiana Crawfish. A number of years back a flood destroyed the farm, washed a bunch of the critters over to Brazos Bend, and made a bunch of birds happy for years to come! regards~Bill

did know that red crawfish are abundant here. Not only did I like the photos but one of my best friends sons owns a crawfish farm in Lake Arthor, LA and he mentioned rather casually that he would like one to come run off all the birds eating his crop.....sound like a photo op for me....I think I will go there next week thanks for the creative idea

Another very lovely white image, Bill. I think the crop is as close at you can go and still maintain that sense of negative space we all seem to need so great job there as well. I've never seen this bird in the field before but I'm wondering if a bit more contrast on the whites are needed or is this representative of their true tone? I find myself wanting just a tiny bit more pop to the whites for some reason.

I think this is a great shot. The birds concentration and effort in getting to where it wants is a killer. Great great job.

I like the wing and leg positon and the angle of the shot is perfect. Very nice details throughout.
I agree with Julie on wanting the bird to pop out more.

Perfect timing Bill. It could not be better.

It would be interesting to see a repost if you do follow up on Jules's suggestion of a bit more contrast in whites.

    Very well done.

Bill - this is stunning. gorgeous wings and i love the face and feet popping out from between them. I wonder if a very tiny amount of eye-doctor work might make his face pop a bit more....

I think the crop is fine, the edges of the wings are almost on the diagonal. The wing position is perfect, with the legs and head visible. The alignment of the white/black boundary in the wing tips adds a lot, same angle and offset enough to separate the wings.

My goodness, sure are alot of comments, and I appreciate it! I'm glad the crop seems acceptable. An image shot in very soft light, as this was, almost always needs a contrast boost which I did in ACR for this one, and I am in agreement it needs more. As far as I can tell the image does represent the true tone Julie, pretty close to pure white, which does present contrast problems in itself.
Pat; a little eye doctor could'nt hurt, now that you mention it.
    regards~Bill
