I had been playing around with the high ISO settings on the 7D when this doe came out of the woods lining the creek in the BG. I kinda liked the contrast between the dark BG and the lighter grasses up front. 7D, 1-400L @ 285mm, f5.6, 1/100s, ISO 6400, manual mode, HH, slight crop from left and top.

Lovely shot! Doesn't look too noisy in here.

Amazingly good given this very high ISO.

I would be interested to know how you exposed this, roughly how much plus EV would it be equiivalent to?

Exceptional Steve, considering the techs, a killer image.

Think you and Hilary should swop notes re the 7D.

killer techs and nice look you got! the 7D sure can perform at high ISO if you give it enough exposure...

wish the BG was a bit less cluttered :)

Steve - amazing, would love to know your tricks for the high ISO. I haven't pushed the 7D much above 800.

Well done on this Steve. As mentioned before, you have a way of getting the most out of bodies that don't have the rep of being real good high iso performers :D.

Steve, you should have been on safari with me!

I like the composition and tonal range you have achieved here. Very nice.

    Thanks for the comments.

    Ken,
I think this was probably around a +1 EC equivalency.

    Rachel,
No special tricks. I push the histogram to the right (avoiding blinkies) and then during conversion I just make the tweaks in DPP that minimize the noise (viewing at 100% for that part).

WOW! This image has given me the courage to really push the ISO on my 7D. Exposing as far as you can to the right (w/o getting the blinkies) really does make a difference. I'll also have to give DPP more consideration in PP.
