Here is something you do not see everday, in fact this was our second sighting in 12 years. Luckily my wife spotted it as it was missed by our guide and tracker.

Pangolins usually move quite fast and head down, so getting it like this is not a bad result. I have no more space, so this crop was the best I could do. Slight gardening undertaken.

Taken in Kwara concession, Okavango Delta, Botswana, 26th December 2010.

something I have not seen in the wild in all my life of adventures in the African bush
well captured Ken - the coiled pose and the relatively clean surrounds.

in an ideal world better light would have made a super sighting an even better photo opp :w

Since first coming to Africa in 1982, I have yet to see ANY Pangolin sightings, closest being is finding spoor!
So just sighting one, let alone getting a half decent image Ken, deserves a double applause and a big Hi 5 . VWD

I haven't seen one either Ken.

Well done to your wife for spotting it and to you for getting it all in the frame with the eye on view.

Thanks to everybody for your kind comments, we were extremely privilged to find this and get a few decent oppurunities for images.

It is a pity that this animal is rarely seen, but probably better that it is not as its scales are considered a very powerful "medicine" by the locals.

Ken - congrats on a great sighting. I like the coiled pose. On my first trip to Africa in 2003, our guide spotted a coiled pangolin in the road as we were racing to get out the Mara gate without a fine, just a quick glimpse and no photos :(. I had no idea at the time how rare a sighting it was. Well done by your wife to spot it and well done by you to capture an image under pressure.

    Rachel
