Default Flying Fox drinking behaviour - which one do you prefer?

1D Mark IV, Canon 600 f4 IS, 1/2500, f5, iso 1000, HH in chest deep water

It's still very hot in Sydney so the poor bats are drinking in early afternoon and not only at night as usual. Handholding the 600 f4 IS for 2 hours whith no rest is not fun!:(
Will try again with the tripod although was never successful in getting flight shots with a tripod.

Please let me know which image you prefer - this one or my previous post.
    Thanks!

    Hey Ofer,
I was going to comment on the previous post.....when I saw this just now.....I think both have great merit.....but I prefer the previous post compwise......just seems to work better for my tastes......but both are excellent and show a very unique behaviour! Thanks for the insight too as to why! At least the tripod will perhaps let you rest the lens! Looking forward to more of these!

previous one Ofer. I kind of like the wing symmetry on that one. Keep them coming.

I'm going to have to say I prefer this one! Underwing detail is great, overall IQ top notch and the comp is awesome with space for it to fly into. The low angle once again takes it over the top.

Once again I'll be "nitty" :w and say I think it could do with a very slight CW rotation. The water line in front of the animal is the main "horizon" IMHO and I think it's sloping ever so slightly down to the left.

Congrats on this! Hope you get even more with the tripod hehe

I am torn between the two, both are great captures of behaviour I have never seen.

    I like them both.

    with pleasure Ofer :)

here is my suggestion - as said a very slight rotation, only 1 degree clockwise
it just straightens the "apparent" horizon which is created by the water level and ripples in front of the flying fox.

all in all - marvellous shot, I still prefer this to the first post...

Ofer - another great image. Like Sid I prefer the other one, largely due to wing position.

For me this one is slightly more interesting than the first because of the wing detail and facial expression. If bats have faces.

This is an excellent image Ofer and I would choose this one over the other one

Lots of impact, the light on the face and the underwing area. If anything I would take some off the LHS as we see this to move the eye closer to a third.

    Great to see and tfs.

Morkel, thanks for taking the time!! Looks to me that the left side is higher than the right in the repost...:(

    Wonder what other think.

Did not notice those hands/legs on the wings on my work laptop. Cool...

    Keep them coming Ofer.

    Thanks Sid,
These are the thumbs as the whole wing is made of the bats hand. The fingers evolved to be very long but the basic stucture is pretty similar to our hand....

    Ofer,

I prefer this image. IMO in Morkel's repost the water appears to be going uphill.
FYI- I would enter this in one of the major Wildlife competitions.

    Best,

    Chas

I also prefer the second one because of the subject being larger in the frame. I do however like the incoming angle of the first post. Both great shots, love the low angle. Awesome mate!

Ofer, Chas - it probably comes down to what your eye catches first as a plausible "horizon" :wh:)

As I said before - it is subjective. What, to me, will look better, won't look better for everyone else. That's what makes art great - very much a smorgasbord of opinions, tastes and preferential views.

I still love this very much and agree with Chas that you need to enter it into some of the major competitions. :D

I prefer this one Ofer. Although I'd like him a little lower to the water like in the first, this one had a better position in the frame for me and less of the flying water drops. Both are excellent however and it must've been quite a sight to observe.

Another excellent image Ofer. I like them both very much, but will give this one the nod. Agree on entering in the competition, just let us all know which one so we don't have to compete against it :D. Very well done.

Superb. I strained my eyes but I have to agree with Morkel on the rotation here. But then again, I'm known for seeing things a bit skew.

Wow Ofer, this is something that we do not see in the UK!!
I love both images, but think that I prefer this one - I love the intense stare and those 'fingers' - and the fact that it seems to be defying gravity! I'd definitely enter this one for the BBC comp.
