Gentoo penguin in surf, Sea Lion, Falkland Islands

As this was my 5th visit to the Falkland's I concentrated on unique images with a different perspective than in years past. I am already looking forward to returning to this magical place in early 2012.

    Great piece of action!

Love the sharpness. I would like to see more of it (bigger picture).

Charles, great capture. We could argue about crop and position on bird in the frame but I don't think they actually matter. You have captured a great scene expertly

Having a hard time with that image. I agree the freezing of the action and the sharpness are top notch but I struggle to "see" the bird. The water drops at the top and the lack of light in the eye contribute to it. Feels a bit dead to me. Sorry...

    JLuc,

The image was to not intended to be an ID of the species. My intent being to illustrate the conditions the subject endures on a day to day basis for survival. Battling the elements is part of the overall editorial story.

    Best,

I think it's a great capture in challenging conditions. Perhaps it's a bit dark... JR
