    Default D300S vs D7000

I am interested in upgrading from my Nikon D80 (which l loved). Unfortunately my bank account doesn't share the same passion I have for photography. I am looking at the D300S and D7000. I have recently used/borrowed the D300 on a recent trip to South Africa and was pleased with it's results. I have another friend who is pleased with his D7000.

    FYI- I'm strictly a landscape/wildlife photographer.

    Any suggestions?

Daniel, I'll just try to encourage others to reply by saying I'd love to hear opinions on the same topic.

I've been surprised by the lack of posts for the D7000... I haven't exactly been blown away by any of the bird images I've seen taken with it (no offense!). But most people on here use Canon :). I also assume that those who very capably use the D300s have no big reason to switch to a D7000. So these D7000 queries don't get much traction... haha. The mere fact of the silence on the camera as relates to bird photography makes me wonder

Seems like one of the most capable responders to this would be Mr. James Shadle, but unfortunately he must be quite busy. Someone asked him this same question on 12/20 and there wasn't a reply. Nor has he posted more images from the D7000. I'd love to hear what his experience has been with it to date.

Then it was said today by Thom Hogan that the D300s is now going out of production... everyone is waiting for the D400 announcement, and I expect that is where lots of Nikon folks will go. Of course that will be more costly..... which brings us back to the D7000..............

I guess we'll just keep waiting!

    I have to disagree:

The reason is more likely that they are waiting for the replacement of the D300 and D300s, which presumably would be a camera built upon what comes with the D7000 but better.

    Just search D7000

    The D7000 is a wonderful camera, 16MP!!
However there a few things that bug me, most notable is the mode dial on the top left of the camera.
Too easy to switch modes on me!
For the money, difficult to beat.

Per Thom Hogan (front page of his site):

"D300s. No longer in production, many still in the sales channel. A strong candidate for replacement between now and September."

    Default I like the D-7000

I like the D-7000 and I have the D300S too...but I have to say for Landscape I would go with the D-700.

I like the lightness of the D-7000 a lot, and IQ is good but not fantastic. I do like the way the D300s has the focus options on the back instead of pushing in a button on the side and turning a knob...certainly not something that is done fast with one hand.

But it's not near as nice as the D-700....good luck.
