    Default hello from Adelaide,South Australia

Hi , I came across this site after revisiting Arthur Morris whose articles I had read some years back in a magazine.I have been a photographer since 1970 when I went to the Northen Territory of Australia for a year.It was very tropical compared to the dry state I live in so I started taking photos with my dad's kodak retina 35mm camera. He was a keen amateur photographer.I started photographing in the NT and also our pet cats, then children , then family weddings. Then starting a long part time career as a wedding photographer while working in a day job.I have now retired from my day job and still doing occasional wedding.I have trained many people as wedding photographers and looking to run some training sessions in various genres in my retirement.Have long been keen on bird photography and have captured many shots over the years.Australia has a fantastic birdlife and we have many beautiful species come into our own backyard.Got some great shots of eagles and other birds in central australia about a year ago and we are looking to go again in early march.I use pentax and canon equipment. Look forward to having some discussion etc.

Geoff, welcome to BPN! Glad to have you with us. There's a lot to check out here to dig in and start posting. If you've never had your images critiqued before and you want to start with the "gentler side" head over to the Eager to Learn forum; otherwise, feel free to start posting with the big boys.

Default thank you Daniel and Julie.

thanks for your welcome Daniel and Julie. As a young person of 13 I was gun happy and shooting birds with an air rifle but my Dad who was my photography mentor encouraged me to watch birds and photograph them rather than shoot them. So I became an avid birdwatcher at 14 but a bird photographer much later.

Will work out how to get a bit more involved in this forum soon.

Thanks for your greeting Arthur. No I don't know Jim.I have long had an interest in doing just that, showing overseas visitors our wonderful outback and birds and animals. I have developed several training courses of my own including bird photography and now as I am "retired", nearly 65,I am aiming to advertise my bird photography and some other courses this years to see how I go. I have trained many wedding photographers and also a few on using slr's and the basics of photography.I admire your work and particularly your deliberate blurred images.I stumbled on that look recently by accident photographing a flock of galahs(cockatoos) at dusk with camera set on programme and no time to think about settings and really liking the results.I have some issues with computer set up at the moment and need to get my techno sons to help me set up a decent broadband system so I can post some images etc.(still using dial up). I was fortunate over many years in that my late father in law was an expert on conservation and birds in South Australia's riverland and we often went bush together and he was a wealth of self taught information on Australian birds and plants. I have many images from our excursions both video and stills.

    kind regards

Thanks for the info mate and good luck with the connection.... Have you seen A Guide to Pleasing Blurs? It's great that you had a good relationship with your Dad. I did not :) Just before he died I thanked him for never saying one nice word about me. That caused me to strive to be as good as I could be with everything that I have ever chosen to do. He smiled....
