Is the attached image a Boat-tailed Grackle or a common grackle? I can't find pictures showing the distinct blue patch on the wing in my many bird books. Taken in Naples FL 1/10/11.

    Thanks.

The overall look of the bird and the relatively short tail suggest a Common Grackle to me. Sibley's graphic of a Florida male shows some blue on the wing like yours.

I agree with John, The Boat-Trail is often found along the Atlantic shore and FLorida would qualify. The common Grackle is smaller, with shorter tail and more restricted purple.
