Indigo snakes are North Americas largest snake reaching 10' in length.. This one wasn't nearly that large.. I saw a real monster during the 08 ICF Contest.. This was from last years contest. I saw this one in a pond and just sat on the bank and it came right at me. Handheld with the 800mm

The tongue is just perfect. I think I would be getting worried if this guy was coming right at me.

    Perfect timing Dale.

As the 800 is almost identical in many ways to the 500, HH I guess wasn't an issue, but just proves how good it is. Would like to have seen this in a portrait format too, with the weight of the image, like this, at the foot. Nice one.

Indigo's are great snakes, very mellow and easy to handle.. Really like them!

Nice, sharp detail. I like how the body forms an arrow under water pointing right to the head. The forked tongue also points right to the head. No guessing what the point of interest is in this one!

    Charles,

Thanks for the info, that helps me understand it better.
