    Default Flying Fox drinking behaviour

From this evening. The Grey-headed Flying Foxes are big fruit bats which live in east coast Australia. They drink in this interesting way - flying low until the belly touches the water then they lick the water of the wet fur while flying. Usually this behaviour happens at night but today was quite hot in Sydney so they were thirsty in early afternoon....

Really really cool to see this, and during the day! Awesome shot, very nice action and sharpness.

An interesting capture Ofer and am very please to view this, was this HH or on a tripod considering your location?

Personally I think it could have a little CW rotation, looking at it about 1 degree based on the 'take off' line created on the water. Plus a fraction in Curves and a bit more on the left slider in Levels just gives it that 'punch' it needs I feel. Also, perhaps a bit more USM wouldn't hurt IMHO just on the body & head. Be good to see some more of these images if you have the time Ofer, plus any advice or techniques you found useful in getting the shot as I am sure other would be interested.

    Ofer,

Stupendous shot, love the splashing water. Can I suggest perhaps a little selective sharpening on the head, but given the hans hold, in chest deep(hopefully not cold) water, then remarkable.

Ofer, very cool capture of the action. The low POV a big plus too. The flight is at an angle to you so I think rotation is OK judging against the reflections in the water. I do think the face could use more sharpening.

this is really nice Ofer - with a splendid angle

good light and good action, wished for some more space in front and agree with the slight rotation

    Ofer,

Way cool image of behavior I am sure has been rarely documented. As to the nits...you have got to be kidding me.

Exceptional image Ofer!! Being chest-deep in water really gave you an amazing low angle perspective.

Nothing wrong with this. Outstanding capture. Low angle and composition makes this in my opinion.

Just to clarify - with slight rotation I do mean very slight. Also some "nits" are given in a sense of "in an ideal world", purely as food for thought for the next time one is out in the field.

The suggestions made are - as always - subjective and not intended to take ANYTHING away from a super shot all of us would love to have taken.

    :) :w

    Ofer,

I would just like to say that I agree entirely with the above, I sometimes wonder about comments myself

Great action, well captured. I really like the trail of water behind.

Lovely. One doesn't see this often. Can't believe you were handholding for so long. The spray looks good. I like this image better than the next post.
