This is a dark phase bird, perched in the open on an old fence post recently. I decided to leave the wire of the fence in, as it was all part of the environment.

    From my vehicle, D300, 300 f/4 AF-S +1.4TC, ISO800, 1/1250, f/8.0, spot-metered on the bird with +1EV.

Very nice. Love the pose of the bird and that backward glance. The wire does not bother me. Nice focus and details. What is the blue banding in the BG? It caught my eye right away.

Did you have to bring up the exposure in processing? It looks to be some noise in the dark plumage of the Hawk. I like the head turn and if this were mine I would maybe crop a bit more off the bottm to eliminate more of the perch..it seems to over power the Hawk despite the Hawks size.

Thanks for the comments. The blue is a layer of blue sky in the background, below a layer of whitish stratus cloud and above a snowy field. And I did bring up the exp. a bit, even with spot metering and +1 stop exp. comp.
