Taken today with a great group of friends Ben Venezio, Susan Candelario, and Nick Palmieri......freezing our rears off at the end of the day at a local NJ pond......almost totally frozen over! I am always amazed how beautiful the most common species can be......given the right angle and time of day! If you can't be out photographing.....freezing with your friends.....what more can I ask for!:D

Canon 1D Mark lll with the 100-400mm lens at 350mm for 1/1600 sec. at f7.1 and ISO 640 HH. I did a version with a cleaned up BG.....left the lumps on the snow and ice for depth.

Perfect wing position and the snow on the beak is a huge plus. It is great to see almost full coverage of both the top and bottom of a wing. Too bad he wasn't kind enough to fly a smidge more clockwise to light the green better. Someone needs to start an avian modeling school.

Beautiful shot, Roman. Thank you for the reminder that even the common can be gorgeous, especially when we take the time to look a bit closer. Ditto Alan's remarks on positioning for the green, but still, lovely as shot.

I like that you left the snow on the beak. I guess some would be tempted to take that out. Nice in flight shot.

Hey Roman, we do underestimate mallards. We have a lot here, and they are actually quite colourful, as you have shown here. Good forward wing position, and I like the angle of flight. Well captured.

Great image Roman, I always enjoy these bird colours. I like the wing position, the wing patterns and colours. The wings look very sharp but the head looks slightly soft.

Roman, loved it. Mallards are common but shooting them in flight is far from easy. Quite strong in flight, they are. Liking the wrap-around wing position here.

Great image of a common duck. I love the colors and the pale background. The snow on the duck's bill is a bonus.

Roman, You captured a great pose that shows off the many colors. Nice wing details and I like the snow on the bill. Sounds like a cold but fun day!!

Love it Roman! If we didn't see them every day we might appreciate their beauty more!
