    Default Northern Pygmy Owl

Hi all, I haven't posted for a long while...it's nice to be back and have something to share.

This uncommon little owl came around to check out the local bird feeders today and stayed for a while. We started out taking shots through an open window inside the house, but discovered along the way that he/she was completely unconcerned about us and very intent on lunch...

Canon 7D with Canon 500 + 1.4x II, Av mode, ISO 800, 1/100s, f/11, Canon 430 EX flash in ETTL mode -1EV, Gitzo tripod and Jobu Black Widow HD2 gimbal head

I cloned out a couple of small distractions in this image.

Comments and critiques are greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking!

    Cheers!

Love the eyes on this little one. Well exposed and nice sharpness. Nice to have gotten a pretty clear view of the owl. Well done.

What a treat! Love owls and would love to see this species some day! To me, just a contrast boost would be fine.

This is a perfect example where flash was really beneficial and another reason why I should try and use flash more often
I love the setting. Looks absolutely magic. No distractions but has a little something to it.

    Very nice.

    Bruce:

    Lovely little owl, nice setting.

Nice flash work in general, I think the owl is very nice. Might try to very subtly tone down the foreground, esp. the patch of snow, as that area does look just a bit flashed. Very nice as is, can be improved with a little more massaging.

    Cheers

Thank-you very much everyone for your comments and suggestions. I see out the kitchen window that the owl is back this morning patiently perched in a small maple tree overlooking the feeding ground...unfortunately, I've got to go to work :(

    Cheers!
