I don't always get the small shore bid ID's correct, so correct me if I'm wrong.
Taken along the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia Beach, VA. Overcast late morning, laying in the sand, it was low tide and they were feeding up away from the water so the BG is wet sand. Sony A700, 70-400G at 400mm, f8, 1/3200, iso 400, aperture priority, HH propped on elbows. 90% of FF. I blended some light circles in the BG. There were no blown whites showing in ACR, but some still looked hot. I used a B/C adjustment layer with a linear burn mode at 22% and then some selective burning. I boosted the contrast on the upper body and slightly sharpened the whole bird.
Hi Peter,I have no critique to offer,as it looks( to me) ,to be a great shot.Love the details in the feathers and the catch lite in the eye is a good plus, definitely a joy to look at!
Thank you Clyde. Your coment about the catchlight reminded me that I forgot to indicate in my original post thet I added the catch light with the brush tool.

Peter; without a doubt, your best to date, and why I am an advocate of this type of lighting. Detail, exposure, and DOF (F8 an excellent choice) are all top notch. Yes, it is a Sanderling. Good work!regards~Bill
I'm with Dave on this one...the head turn away from the camera's sensor is the ONLY thing I can find not to love about this one. You did a beautiful job on exposure and the colored sand is rich and warm against the black and white of the bird. Just need to wait for that head to angle your direction a bit more...
