    Default Snowdrift Abstract

In keeping with this week's theme, I went out on Thursday and took some photos of the newly fallen snow in my backyard. (We got about 8 inches and are expecting 3-6 more tomorrow. Anyone wanting a full time job shoveling my driveway give me a call... )

For this image I did a little spot healing on the snow where the details were lost and then gave it a small curves adjustment to bring out the high and low tones a bit more. I color balanced it to bring down the blue some and then added an omni spotlight to the white area close to center. I remembered Denise's trick of choosing a channel to add some texture so I chose the blue channel with white being the highest point and lowered the intensity to 25. I then toned down the brightness a tiny bit but left enough fall off so the landscape had a little more depth to it. Final step was a tiny bit of surface blur just to smooth it a bit but used a very light hand so I wouldn't lose the texture that was added.

    Jules,

I feel that omni spot was an important element of this image as it seems to pull my attention into this simplistic, peaceful scene. I like it. Kind of Zen like. :) Well done.

Very nicely presented Jules, I liked the way you softly illuminated the image.

Beautiful composition, Julie. I like the soft tonality of the overall image and the drift has come of. I also like the texture on the lower part of the image. Nicely done.

Beautiful image, Jules. The soft peaceful mood really pulls me in. What I find really neat about this is the "nothingness" of it. The whole image is about a feeling, not a subject. Very well done.
