Surf after a winter storm is fierce, and sometimes deadly. The gulls don't seem to mind, though. Pescadero, California.

Hi
I like the DOF here, you knew what you wanted and got it!
Perhaps a shade dark overall though, FP possibly wasnt the bird?
Very nice environmental shot and I like the inclusion of the bird.
I like the idea of a bit of crop off bottom leaving just a strip of surf and then the big rocks and a bit off left to close the gap so to speak.
Nicely exposed and good to see the ocean spray.
Very good environment shot, the inclusion of the bird help me feel how big the wave is. All the slash from the wave really give a dynamic and powerful feel to this image. TFS.
This is a lovely moody image. I really like it.
If it were mine, I might try to lighten and sharpen the gull just a bit. I wouldn't take much if anything off the left, but I might try just a bit off the right and a slice from the top of the image to put more emphasis on both the flight of the bird and the wonderful layers you have here. Also I think the image is just a bit dark.
Overall, it's beautiful as is![]()
This is a powerful shot. One can almost hear the waves crashing. Very beautiful. Just needs a bit more light.
What a beautiful image, Bill! You can tell you were careful about getting the bird in just the right place and the power of the surf is a real attention-getter. I do agree that the blues in the BG ocean are lovely but are so dark that part of the gull almost gets lost so I recropped the image, putting the bird in the upper right ROT's position and then did a shadow/highlight adjustment to bring those dark blues up a little bit. These are just suggestions but thought they were worthy of a look.
I also think the image would work very well with a pano crop as well.
Thanks for the comments and suggestions for improvement. I like the changes you made, Julie. Thanks.
Bill
