    Default Cooing Ravens

A pair of Ravens making sweet talk in YNP during the fall elk rut. Not sure about the top of the pine in llc but it takes up some dead space and give a little balance.

    Todd:

Because this is such a natural vertical image, and all the interest focuses on the birds/moon and tree, I would def. try a version with the branches in LLC removed. They don't add IMO. I appreciate the comment about balance, but I find this one displays very nicely without the branches.

The wispy clouds give some added depth too. The bird interaction works very well.

    Cheers

    Randy

I like the composition here. The birds on the tree with the moon just above I think is really nice. Agree with Randy that removing the trees in the lower left would improve the image.

Nice, but another vote for removal of the lower left branches. Have you tried some sharpening on the moon? I think a clear and stronger moon would add to the image.

    Todd,

Very cool shot, The ravens look like they are enjoying the full moon.
I myself would remove the pine in the BLC.
Your image is so powerful it does not need it .

    Well done,

Yet another vote to remove the pine needles in the LLC:) I am also wondering if you had some room to move left just a tad to prevent the moon from being so close to the tree, or at least to get it out from under that twig just above it. I do love the image and mood though...well seen!

Yep, Ted, the top of the pine should go, imo. Wonderful capture, and if you leave the pine top in, I still love it :)

Another vote here for vegetation removal. My eyes want to dance between the two intentionally OOF objects. I was wondering what variety of cactus it was so perhaps this vote shouldn't count.

I agree with the others. Remove the pine in the LLC. If you can add some sharpness to the moon that would be good too.

You showed some imagination here; congratulations. Had I come upon the scene, then I would have tried some low-speed shots with the aperture stopped way down. Then your moon would have been sharp even before post-processing. You were at f5.3 with a speed of 1/200. Assuming the ravens were motionless or nearly so, you had a chance for some longer exposures.

Cloning was invented for those branches in the LLC.

Thanks for the comments Jim and Craig.
Craig, I was in a hurry to get to where I had planned on shooting some bull elk when I came upon this scene. I had a small window through an opening in the pines so I could not move much. When I left a cinnamon black bear ambled out in front of me of course delaying me longer :w but I made it to the bulls in plenty of time. Long story short, no I only made a few images and was on my way.

Cool mood here Todd, and love the inclusion of the moon. Another vote for removing the LLC. An opportunity well used.

Lovely atmospheric shot Todd! I too would be tempted to clone out the OOF tree.
