    S/H and cropped and then converted to B/W in CS5. Chalk/Charcoal Filter in CS5

    Ian, I really like the effect and the B&W looks nice. I'm not a fan of high contrast so this really appeals to me. I might evict the few white spots on the left side of the image. I do wish the grebe had a bit more detail (but just a bit)esp. to the head. I also might take a small slice off the bottom if it were mine. The texture at the top of the image is lovely.

    Ian, I like the B&W foggy look, especially the wisps above the grebe. Agree with Denise that a little more detail on the bird's bill and eye would help - but don't overdo it. Also, eliminating the whitish spots on the LHS would help. Love the mood in this image!
