    Default Snow Deer

    Attached Images Attached Images

A heavy snow storm brought the Mule Deer up near the house to check out the bird feeders. I took many photos in rapid succession to increase my chances of getting one without snow flakes blotting out the deer's eyes.

    ISO 400, f5, 1/800, exp. comp. +2/3

    comments and critiques most welcome.

    Nancy,

I am really loving this shot! Every time it snows I fret over the possibilities and usually end up with nothing by trying for everything. The next time, I'll just head down to my food plot and hope for a whitetail buck or doe to provide a beautiful image such as yours. The snow on those furry ears is wonderful.

Beautiful portrait. Pose and composition are terrific. Judging by the focal length, you must have been pretty close to him. Just curious, were you inside or outside when you made this image?

Danny & Gary, thank you for the lovely compliments. I was inside. I can crank open a window and sit back into the room and photograph. It'a good thing deer are big subjects :).

To Quote Kevin Meaney; "that's not right" sitting inside and getting an image like this. You are supposed to freeze the you know what off to get this. :p But seriously, an excellent image with the snow on the ears and head; interesting BG and falling snow.

I would suggest taking some of the left side and even out the distance from the antlers on the left to match that on the right.

Beautiful winter image with the falling snow and nice eye contact! Agree about cropping L side.

Beautiful portrait Nancy. Love the atmosphere with the falling snow. I like the comp as is with the breathing room it has. Well done.

great detail and super winter feel here Nancy...

I would rotate it slightly CW so the antler-tips and eyes line up on the same plane :)

Wonderful image. Great exposure, composition and eye contact. Gives a great feel for the animals day to day fight for life.

Must be great to be able to take images from indoors, not something I could do here although we once had a Steenbok (tiny antelope) in the garden.

Snow adds so much to this image, also something we rarely get.

Nancy - really like the mood that you captured with the falling snow and the wintery bg. That you shot from inside your house is just amazing.

I was a little embarassed to tell you all that I can photograph deer while sitting inside the house:o! But it sure is a comfortable way to do it when the snow and wind are blowing! Thanks so much everyone for looking and your compliments.
