These lions lying in the road in the rain in the Northern Kruger Park offered me some great photo opps for close-ups. We spent an hour with them on our own before they dashed into the bush...moments later another visitor pulled up and asked why we were stopped...gotta love sightings like these.

Excellent Morkel, good to see how well this close-up worked out. I like it that the eye's and nose are both very sharp TFS

Beautiful image, as usual. It must be nice to have them cooperate like this. On my monitor the image looks like it has a slight greenish cast and looks a bit washed out (pun intended). Easily corrected, though. Cheers.

Great shot, Morkel. I have two questions: first, is it possible to include a bit more more to the right, while keeping the tight feel you have here, so there is some area for the subject to look into? Second, how would you feel about cropping out the one wild (excuse the pun) hair over the left eye? i think it could be a bit processed a bit deeper, as well, as noted by the other commentators. Well done!

    thanks for the feedback everyone...

the exposure looked fine in terms of how I remember these lions, they were quite pale

here is one with highlights toned down some

Ron - there's no more space on the RHS I'm afraid

Morkel - nice close-up portrait and sounds like a great sighting. Great eye contact and I like the comp as is. His whiskers look very short?

I like the tight comp with just a hint of the ears. Great, intense look from those eyes. I prefer the OP, seems to more closely represent the rainy conditions you described.
