    Hi

This Ruff was busy searching for food amongst rocks.

I liked this pose, and luckily the light was even though low so I chose to use ISO 1250
still only achieving a SS of 1/400 @ f8 Exposure at Ev +.33. NR in CR5, sharpening and levels adjustment in PS5.
there is a little clipping of small white areas like the top of the tail
I also added the catchlight to the eye

    Richard:

I like the ruffled feathers, sense of texture there, orange legs.

I might consider toning down the luminosity of the background, esp. the RUC, which tends to draw the eye away from the subject.

    Cheers

    Randy

Very nice shot Richard, I like the composition and the exposure. With shots like these I very often brush round the periphery of the shot with a light, soft brush to act as a subtle vignette.

    Hi Jonathan

nice idea how would you determine color; just pick from one of the darker edge shades?

Yes - for example just above the wing tip top centre - the darker grey area - use a soft brush and set to about 30-35% opacity.
