Saw this Bison on the Pala Indian Reservation going up to the Julian area. Just had to take a few shots. Did B&W for old west feel, and because color didn't look right for some reason. Was not sure on how to crop, but it is almost FF here.

B& W works well for this image for the reasons you stated. I think a tad more sharpening and contrast (if needed) would increase the impact.

Nice up close look at this guy Brendan. Crop wise I know a square crop is not everyones cup of tea but I think in this image it makes it stronger. Exposure and sharpness look pretty good. You might look at a duotone or sepia tone as well.

That's some hairdo he's sporting. I like Todd's idea of trying a sepia tone for this.

Nice image Brendan. With Ken on image contrast and sharpness.

Like square crop idea and reposted my suggestion here. What you need is a reverse s-curve (less contrast not more to better separate the darker tones in the image). See my tutorial here which includes reverse s-curve. I also sharpened the image and masked out the grass as it looked too sharp.

Thanks feedback folks, and thanks Robert for pointing me to your tutorial. I can see by your re-post what you mean. I will check it out and work on it.

I like the close up crop, and shows good fluffy detail. Roberts repost works well.

Great looking buff. I like the square comp and how the tip of the opposite horn is visible.

Added sepia tone as Todd suggested while experimenting more with Robert's reverse s-curve tip and some selective sharpening.
