    Default Coyotes Playing at Sunset

Caught these two young coyotes playing on a ridge at sunset after a thunderstorm had passed through. I didn't do a very good job with the original exposure but I liked the experience of watching them so I made it into a silhouette. 20D, 500/4 + 1.4xTC, f6.3, 1/500s, ISO 400, handheld from vehicle, darkened and warmed a touch, little bit of a crop all around.

Nice atmosphere on this Steve. Would have been nice if the rh coyote would have given some separation between head and body. I might be tempted to brighten the grass a bit if you have the latitude in the file. Well done.

Hi Steve, it's nice always to see something different and this certainly falls into that category.

I agree with Todd re atmosphere & separation, however perhaps if you lighten things it might not have the same feel. My only thought was, that as presented it feels rather cold, although echoing the time of day & passing thunderstorm, but wondered if you were to go the other way and add some more warmth to it? Just a thought, but like it as presented.

    Steve,

I tried a curves adjustment on it (increased highlights significantly) and like the results. You can see some detail in the coyotes but I liked the hint of detail it brought out. It also warmed up the whole image making it look like sundown.

This image has great atmosphere and mood. I like it very much but agree with trying some curves to out detail TFS

Steve - sounds like a fun sighting to end the day with. Some good suggestions above.

Hi Steve, Im glad you didnt go for a full silhouette here. The hint of detail looks good, and I like te eye contact between the two. The air so clear after a thunderstorm isnt it. Cheers.

nice action here and great mood set with the silhouette Steve...agree on brightening up and also that having the rightmost one more distinctly etched would have been first prize!

Thanks to all for the comments and suggestions. I do have some detail in the original so I'll take another look.

And yes Stuart, the rain does freshen up the air real nice. Especially during the monsoon season in New Mexico (where this was taken).
