A tough shot to get, but you've done a good job here with excellent sharpness, wing position, and eye contact! The darks seem a little noisy as presented. I think you could make them a bit darker and that would help with the noise. Also the head seems slightly oversharpened.

Vivaldo, really cool shot and one that I'm sure is tough to get. I agree that there is a lot of noise in the dark feathers. Not sure if that's from lightening in post-processing or what but like Doug said, it would be good to work on that area.

    Cheers,

Looks better, although I would probably run some light NR on the dark feathers. Please don't remove the original image when doing reposts. Just include the repost as a reply in the thread. That way people can follow along better and hopefully learn.

I agree about the noise. BTW, I think this bird is a Red-rumped Swallow, not a Barn Swallow, but I'm severely out of my depth when it comes to African birds.

    Amazing capture

Possibly a Mosque Swallow - ref Roberts "dark crown extending to eye level only"...
    otherwise red breasted.

Maybe a Lesser Striped Swallow. Vivaldo, was it streaked on the breast?

Well done on a hard-to-get shot. Loved the dorsal view and the perfect wing spread for this kind of shot.

Thanks for comments appreciated :) Agree ID is not correct, thanks Gerrie for help on ID. It a Greater Striped Swallow. I also agree with the noise in shadow area, will re-edit later TX.

Paul I only managed to get one image of this bird, they are so fast. If I am correct the Lesser Striped Swallow has much thicker black stripes compared to the Greater Striped Swallow. Looking at the side of this birds face, one can see very thin stripes. I think ID is definitely the Greater Striped Swallow.

Vivaldo, every spring there are tons of barn swallows that make nest's under a dock near my house and I have yet to get a decent in flight shot. They are super fast and unpredictable. I would image your greater striped swallows are just as fast!

You did a great job getting this full wings spread :)

Thanks Noelle, they are super fast subjects. I have tried for years to get them in flight, they are so so difficult to capture.:) I have tryed again, darken shadows and applied some NR.

Since I had not heard of either species a mere 24 hours ago, I'm not really in any position to offer a definitive opinion! Either way, that's a gorgeous shot.

Great repost Vivaldo, and this is a greater stripped swallow. The orange on the lesser goes below the eye and across the ear. Well captured in full flight BTW.
