    Wilson's Snipe

    I've been trying to find one of these guys out in the open for some time.

    Canon 7D
    Canon EF400mm f/5.6L
    1/1250sec f/7.1 ISO 400

    What a cool bird. The eye is so far back in the head- great shot of him. You even got some reflection.

    I like a lot the composition you have here. Might be just me but I think I can see some halo / other reflection around the bird's head and above its back.

    Mikko, I believe what you are seeing is just a different color to the mud/weeds in that area. I also see it following the course above the weeds that are in front of his eye. I don't think it is a post-processing artifact.

    Snipes look so cool. I love those big bulbous eyes. You did well to catch one out in the open and the eye contact is great.

    I also don't really see a halo. I think a touch of NR on the distant background would be good.

    How much of a crop is this?

    I'm never quite sure how to describe crop, but this is about 75% of original image size

    Thanks Ian. So that is 13.5 MP left of the original 18 of the 7D. No problems there then :)
