    Default Conowingo Eagles

Has anyone been to the dam recently? I know the eagles numbers are down as they disperse for nesting, but was hoping to make the trip this weekend if there are a few stragglers left.

    Any updates appreciated

    Hi Bill,

I was there on New Year's Day in the afternoon under dark skies. There were only a half-dozen eagles, and they were scattered save for one that was perched on a parking lot branch for what seemed like hours.

Most birds have indeed dispersed to their nesting grounds far and wide.

That's not to say, of course that the couple of stragglers won't be around.

    Thanks Bill

I kind of figured that eagle activity might be mostly over. But I have friends fairly close by so I may drive down and check things out at the dam and visit with them

I spent 3 days there the week of Thanksgiving and all the locals were saying this year was much slower than usual. It was supposed to be the best time to go but the opportunities very hit and miss with long periods of no activity. I got some nice shots but I was there sun up to sun down each day.

    Default Conowingo Dam

I was at the dam on 1/10/11. I saw approximately 4 adults and 4 juveniles. The locals seemed very disappointed but I was quite happy with making the 2 hour drive out there for the first time. I might go back this weekend if the weather clears up. The adults were gathering sticks so they would fly close and over the parking lot every so often. Also walked within 30 feet of one before I realized it was there and it took off before I could get any shots. They are nesting in the big power towers on the island in the middle of the river.
