    Default Keel-billed Tucan

I would have liked the tail to be more in line with the body. These are big birds and I found it difficult to get shots where the entire bird is visible. The picture was taken in Costa Rica with Nikon D3s + 400/2.8 VR at 1/125 f4 400iso.

    Thanks for looking, Giulio

Very well done, great colors and profile view of the large bill. Exposure looks very nice....loved the pose.

I see what you mean about the tail position, but still good. Besides, the main attraction of this bird is the head and that is put in evidence quite nicely. Good perch, and beautiful BG.

Giulio, I don't mind the tail position. The colors look nice and the perch is good. Well done.

Hi, Guilio. I really love how the colors of the bird pop against that nice dark green BG. I know what you mean about these guys; they move around more than you would think. I'm sure you were dealing with low light (early morning?) so I wonder if upping the ISO and taking advantage of the great high ISO capability of the D3s would have allowed you to stop down for more depth of field here. Though I do realize that doing so may have brought the BG too much into focus.

Again, though, the colors in this image really pop and you nailed focus on the eye, where it really counts.

    Cheers,
    Greg Basco

wonderful image! I would suggest less room on top., and a much different crop., but overall, this looks very good.

Very nice Giulio. The tail is not noticed so much. I'm drawn to the beak and head. Nice suggestion by Ray about maybe tighter crop up top.

Hi Greg, yes higher iso would have allowed for more depth of field and sharper tail and perch.

Thanks all for your comment! Giulio

Greg pretty much sums up what I was going to say. ISO 400 on the D3S is really low, but yes, I'd have been worried about making distinct too much of that smoothly OOF BG. I think you'd have needed quite a bit of DOF to do anything about that tail, and in any case the position of the tail doesn't bother me much. The stunning bill is in profile and is sharp. Nice work.
