Took a trip into Canada and found this little Saw-Whet, it slept most of the time but managed a few with eyes partially open. Not much light in is hiding spot and am not a fan of flash for wildlife hence the ss.

This is wonderful, Todd! What a rare treat! I had thought you were headed to the Skagit. Great capture - sure glad he/she managed to open its eyes. Great detail. Its perhaps just a bit dark - I would do just a little spot lightening perhaps on the head/breast area. Looks like you were plenty close!

Given the low lighting and bright BG, this came out real well Todd. Great expression on the face.

    Thanks guys.
Terry: I was going to shoot the peregrines and dunlins in the am then go up for the NHO in Canada in the afternoon, but we decided to spend the day in Canada instead which worked out great.
We got the NHO as well, will be posting some of those soon.

This is pretty much how these guys are found, so you did well with what you had. Not much you could do about the bright sky at right (assuming the view you had on this guy was very narrow, with not much you could do about moving right for a better angle).

    Hi Todd,
Nice closeup of an elusive subject. You said you had gone up to Canada. Did you get this one at Reifel Bird Sanctuary?

Thanks Daniel and Steve for the comments.
Steve: Yes on Reifel, my first time there although it won't be my last :). Saw this one, a couple of GHO as well as many other birds. Then went in afternoon for NHO and was not dissapointed there either.
