Nice light and good detail on the bird. I like it. With the bird looking off into the distance, (to which I don't object, in this instance) the composition might work better if you had more room on the right side of the frame for it to look into. I'm OK with the eye as is.
I know that having the bird looking slightly away like in this case is usually a no-no. I have of course many photographs of this fellow and some of them with more standard head positions. I chose this one because it is a bit more intriguing than the standard ones to watch. I also like that one can see a bit of the inside of the beak tip. Glad that you seem to agree that this pose is OK. I'll se how it looks like if I enlarge the space in front of it Steve.
Jens, I agree with you completely that non-standard head angles can sometimes be much more intriguing than the "correct" head angle with the bird looking at the camera. In my opinion, this is one of those instances. I look forward to more of your posts. :)
