    Default Cheetah Roll

Taken in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, South Africa. This cheetah exhibited many behaviors of a house cat as it woke up in the morning including stretching and rolling around.

    100-400 @ 220mm
    1/500
    f 8
    ISO 400
HH from a safari vehicle, cropped and sharpened.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

    Rachel

I like the lighting cond's and body posture with curled front paws Rachel.
Preference would have been with it's head facing camera, did you manage any frames this direction?

    Rachel,

Great moment captured. I do not think I have ever seen one doing this in am image. I like that one set of paws we can see the pads and the other are curled. I also like the closed eyes as that seems appropriate for rolling around.

I think you have captured a very cute moment here Rachel and love the pose for the above reasons. A little different from the norm. Although viewing on the MacBook Pro it looks nicely processed, but can't comment further. Will you let us know when you start using your new toys, as it would be good to gauge things, good luck. :)

Trust Hilary is enjoying herself and managed to hook up with KD :)

    Thanks Marc, Robert and Steve.

Marc - this is the best head position. He only rolled around for a few seconds as he made his morning rounds, marking a few trees, stretching and the like.

Robert - glad I was able to present something different. I too like the paw positions. I think one of the other frames I captured has one of the front paws over his eyes, very catlike.

Steve - this is partially with the new toys. This is the first image I processed with the new laptop but still used PSE (RAW conversion had been done on old laptop with DPP). I will say that i7 and USB 3.0 make processing seem super fast. Also transferred 11 gbs of photos in under 3 minutes between hard drive and USB 3.0 portable hd. Looking forward to release of USB 3.0 card readers. Hope to have the CS5 by this weekend.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Very impressive, can't wait to get my hands on a 3.0 card reader also.

What a great pose captured. Great sharpness across the entire body. Exposure is perfect. Amazed that you can take such picture at 220 mm in the wild... JR

Funny you should think that Morkel, I had the same thought, but thought it might be too small a thought. :)
