This image was taken in Nxai Pan Botswana. I was in the position of not knowing what to take. I decided to stay focused with the Kite. The lions appeared out of nowhere and started walking towards the waterhole. The wind was blowing such that the kite had to fly into the wind and was being slowed down to just the perfect speed for me to catch it in flight.
Taken with D3s 600 VR at 840mm. ISO 200 1/400sec at F7.1. I had to add canvas on the top.
Come on Vivaldo, since when do you need wind to slow down your flying subjects.:) Love the light and colours, and just wish the kite wasnt flying on the intersection line.
I had a similar situation in Alaska last year, Sandhills Cranes with Brown Bears in the BG. The bears were about the same level of OOF. The common comment then was the bears were too OOF so discern what they are and as such causes a dilemma for the viewer.
I think the same thing applies here. You do not think about it at the time but another Uniate with the lions more in focus could have been used to blend with this image. Wish I had done it in Alaska.
Robert I do agree with you, it would have been nice to have a seperate image of the lions. I may have one, will have to look but as you said things happen so fast unfortunately :) Thanks again for all comments.
