I was sitting on the edge of an icy lake this morning photographing otters when this ring-necked drake dropped in, jumped up on the ice, turned his rear toward me and took a nap a mere 12 meters away. I thought, "huh, what would Artie do?" I decided that he would stop down as much as possible to put some depth of field on the critter and still get a sharp image. Thanks Artie!

Danny, nicely done. I like the subtle colors in this one. The dof and sharp eye work well.

Danny, good stop down with sharpness and detail. Tucked in pose helps if you're sitting on ice. Beautiful golden eye. TFS Ann

    Danny:

Great low angle, good DOF, like the cautious look back pose.
    Good exposure.

Looking at the ice where the duck is touching it, wonder if it needs a bit of CCW rotation?

I could see a small crop from the bottom, just above your sig, to remove the ice ridge. Minor point.

I was out in 0 degree weather yesterday, but this still makes me feel cold!

    Cheers

Very cool (cold)! I always like the posture of head tucked in but the eye still showing. And this is a brilliant yellow eye. I love that you actually see a leg and foot which is a part of a duck that you don't always see. That cut-leaf camo must work :).

Thanks guys! Nancy....I had nine gadwalls at the same distance so cut-leaf camo definitely rules.
