Looks good, and great eye contact. It looks like the tail and the head are a bit less focussed than the main body, or maybe it just needs a little more sharpening. I might add a little more room on the L side.

Love the look back and eye contact too. Nice composition although maybe a little tight below and to the left. Light direction was a challenge here Richard with it appearing to come from the left thus illuminating the back of the head but not the body of the bird. When the body is such an "in-your-face" part of the image it's best to try to include in the depth of field. This is not always possible however. I think some sharpening of the head and eye would be beneficial.

    Thanks John

understood on the DOF, however in this instance a smaller aperture would have taken shutter speed too low
for handheld. I did not want to raise ISO though probably should :)have.
Back to raw, canvas added to left and lower with CA no crop
    More aggressive sharpening

    thanks, appreciate your input.

    Richard,

I find the repost a big improvement. However, I think you have may be adjusted the temperature a touch too far. While the original had a slight blue cast the repost has a slight reddish cast to my eye.

That is strange, because something there seemed to change a lot. Or I have been staring at the screen too long :)

Nope, I see it, too. It really went to the red side for some reason.

Richard, I opened the image and selected Image/Adjustments/Shadow & Highlight and the default settings popped open that dark area of the bird's body in a flash. Give it a try and see what you think.
