    Default Killdeer

I had a dud of a morning but decided to drop by a state park on the way home from my usual wildlife refuge and I saw a Killdeer on the bank of Wakulla Springs. I'm pretty happy with this shot because of the mixed lighting. I might clean up the FG and remove the bright area in the top left corner but I haven't decided how much editing I'd like to do quite yet.

    Your thoughts?

Nice capture of the killdeer. It does look dark, especially the right side of the image.

Hey Ian, seeing one of these next to water seems wrong to me. I'm used to seeing them on dirt and asphalt! :)

Herb is right about right side being too dark....it looks like that area was in shadow. The head looks a bit too parallel to the camera but since my expertise is with macro, I'd wait for an official member of the HAP to chime in with their verdict. :)

Thank you both for the nice comments and it was strange to see one near the water. It was actually on the beach, well, a sandy swimming area in the park.

As for the shadow, I kind of like the effect and think the lighted head, legs, and front half make it stand out from a basic portrait. I'm also trying to find interesting light and personally, I'm pretty happy the way this one turned out. But alas, it's in the eye of the beholder :)
