A little departure from the winter images I have been posting. Here's one from the spring a while back. Agate pack female on elk carcass.
    D300, 80-400vr, f6.3, 1/125, iso560 (auto), man exp, cropped for comp.
Thanks for looking, comments and critiques appreciated.

Todd - I really like the comp and the environment. Something looks different about the processing, it almost has a watercolor feel to it rather than a photo. Did you do something differently?

I agree with Rachel on the comp and environment but wondering on the look as well.

Another ??? re the appearance. Looks very contrasty and oversharpened to me.

    Great moment and setting. JR

    Thanks guys,
This is a file from a while back. Not sure just what was done pp wise anymore. I found the nef on one of my externals and pp it with CS5. Joerg may be on the right track, here is one not as contrasty or quite as warm. See what you think.

Todd, I think the repost appears much better re the colors. Though I have to admit that it still appears to have something funky about it (as if compressed in some direction). I think the few postings I have seen here from you are much better than this particular image. Hope you don't mind that I am being so frank. JR

Joerg, thanks for taking the time to comment. I think the problem lies in pushing the lens to the etreme here, the sage also creates a painterly feel. I don't use the 80-400vr as often since accuiring the 400 2.8 afs. What a difference in IQ.
No worries about being frank/blunt, I have a thick skin and know the critiques from our members are made for the sake of helping one another. So by all means fire away, we all learn something in the process.
    Thanks again,
    Todd
