Ian, lovely whites on the egret...you might be able to take them up a little bit more without losing detail.
First thing I noticed, though, was how tight the comp is. I think you might want to consider cloning out the reflections of the feet as they make the bottom frame feel tight. I'd also add a bit of room to the top of the frame as well - imagine if his head wasn't in a crouching position...that's how much room needs to be at the top for the viewer to not feel as if the bird is going to bang his head should he stand upright. While you're at it, it could probably use a little more room on the right for him to walk into as well!
Very nice HA and the strut is definitely a plus! You got a very nice low angle here as well - he looks eye level to you from what I can tell.
I think this image could look sharper. Agreed that the bird can use some more room all around. Not sure about cloning out the reflections as it may make the final image look strange, unnatural :p
One more thing: I think the image is tilted. Although Jay asked if you would tilt the image if it looks better, I would ask why it looks better when it's tilted :)

Nice shot Ian. If you brought up the whites a bit, it would make the Egret stand out a bit more.
I like the cropping ideas too. I like seeing the Egret in motion - very nice composition.
