Canon 7D Canon 500mm f4 L IS ISO 200 1/2500 sec f5.6.
This shot was taken on a small beach near to mangrove swamps. We initially saw the adult two days previously and noticed it appeared to be on sentinel duty. on returning we spotted the reason for the look out and were lucky to find the chicks. We took a few images and quietly moved on quietly to avoid disturbance.
I have done some patching and cloning to make grass blades and certain highlights in the background a little less obtrusive.
Well spotted Jonathan. These thick-knee's have such large eyes, and I havent seen one of their chicks before. Good to see both looking in the same direction. Could you not have moved back to create more space for the chick on the ground?
Thanks Stuart glad you liked it. We were in an old Nissan Patrol and the driver did not really appreciate some of our messages i.e. like stop means stop - but NOW. We were afriad to disturb them by too much manoevering. You may have guessed I have already added a little canvas (content aware) to the bottom. I agree a little more space would have helped - I did have the 100-400 with me but there were three photographers in the truck and we wanted to cause minimal disturbance and leave the birds in peace.
