My father used to work for the Topeka Capital Journal back in the 1960's under Rich Clarkson. Everyone from Rich's tutelage came back last year for a big reunion to honor his retirement. One of the photographers that returned is married to a woman (Patty Settle) who has been an artist all her life and she created this patch to go on the back of the black bomber jackets tat they had made to commemorate the reunion.

For those of you that aren't familiar with Kansas, the wheat and sunflowers are two of their biggest crops, the tornado (the most destructive natural phenomena in US History until Katrina came along) is represented on the left and the city's capital building on the right. For those of you that remember the days of print film, the camera and flash should look vaguely familiar as well.

I love photography because it allows someone like me who can't draw a stick figure to be artistic - this woman designed this patch freehand. It totally blows my mind!

Hey Jules, this is really cool! The patch is great and I am definitely old enough to remember the Speed Graphic because I had one! I had the Super Graphic with a 4"x5" film pack back. Used to load film packs and knew how to use them! Everything on the camera was manual, including changing the film. You would pull out the dark slide from in front of the sheet of film, make the exposure, then put the slide back. The next time you pulled the slide, the next sheet of film would be ready to expose. There were 16 sheets available if you loaded all of the slots. Man, that's old-timey!
