I was very fortunate to be able to see this big guy out in the open last year. With the knock that rhino populations took in Southern Africa in 2010 due to the rise in senseless poaching fueled by silly Eastern sexual myths, I still had my best black rhino sightings of my life. I just hope they are around for my children to enjoy in the wild too one day.

You'll appreciate me not saying where this sighting took place. Suffice it to say it was in the wild. :)

I included this shot in my "Top 10 for 2010" blog post.

    Techs:
    Canon 7D with 100-400mm L IS USM @ 400mm
    f8.0 @ 1/640 SS @ ISO-400
    Exp +0.7
Gave this one a desaturated tonal treatment as it suited what I wanted to convey.

Morkel - nicely done and I like the POV, it augments the bends in the grasses and the open plains feel.

You are getting a master at this. Great sighting, and I like the angle of capture.

A good environment/habitat image Morkel, like the POV. Conversion works well, but based on laptop as I am away.

Nice image Morkel. Love the conversion. Comp and sharpness spot on as well.
