    The sun really picked up the water after this RD dove for food. It looks a bit shiny to me.

    Nancy, Nice image. The shininess doesn,t bother me that much. I like the beads of water and the drool off the the bill. Mabe open up the crop to give her a little more room, less on the bottom and more on left and top. TFS Craig.

    Hi Nancy
    wish I could get that lught:p

    I also like the water drops and shiny

    Too tight in frame for me, I would take off half of the reflection at the base and add more top and LHS, plus a wee bit on the right

    The drip and water beads are nice and sharp. I agree on adding more space on top and R side.

    Very nice detail and the water drop is great. I agree it needs more room all around and I think it is just a tough bright.

    Thanks Craig. You hit one of my weaknesses that I am trying to break. I crop too tight.
    I want to move to more behavioral shots. Thanks for your comments.

    Thanks Richard. I agree. I'm going to go back in to see if I have more room. I was using the 100-400 and they were pretty close. I still get caught up on zooming in....

    Thank you for your kind words Pat. Santee Lakes can be a great place to get close to the ducks. I will repost, but probably not until the week end. Work is crazy during the week.

    Hi Nancy;

    Here's my take on ALL the suggestions, plus I lightened the eye, and removed one of the 2 catch lights in the eye.

    Great image to work on.

    Gus, the lighter eye is much better. I am going to play with this image a bit more. Thanks for showing me a great idea. What PP program are you using?

    Hi Nancy;

    I use LR3 on my RAW images, however, I used CS5 to make over the image of the Duck. With such a good base of the OP, first I darkened it, then started on suggestions such as cropping bottom and then started adding space as suggested. Adding is easily done, first use crop tool and lengthen one side at time, this gives you the OP with one side extended, then with rectangle marquis tool select as much of the BG you can from the edge of the duck, then edit>free Transform. This will give you 2 handles on rectangle selected, pull one handle to edge of extended crop which will extend BG on that side, press enter, then Ctrl+D. Then do the same to other sides you want to extend.

    I did not originate this method of extending BG or method of lowering brightness, but can locate where methods originated if you email me. gush@cox.net

    Thank you for that great description Gus. I am still playing with LR, but haven't bought it yet. I also use Elements. Maybe I need the upgrade?

    I used all of the suggestions you and everyone else gave me. Here have two versions but think I can only post one. I don't know if I lightend the head and eye as well as you did? Does this work better?

    Nancy

    Now that I see yours and mine I want to crop the bottom more.
