    Happy New Year BPN,

I captured this image a while back and wanted to share it with you folks.
This image was photographed in a small lake about 2 miles from my home, I was in my kayak that I enjoy shooting from due to the low "eye" level perspective it gives :)

    TFL, C&C always welcome
    Chad

PS I won a contest with this image, the category for the contest was titled "A world worth saving"
I will include my written sentiment below.

The nature around us is why the world is worth saving. Without beautiful creatures like the Great Blue Heron, we as humans would not have a beautiful world. The Great Blue Heron like many other animals that catch their prey help to keep our planet clean and healthy. The great blue heron hunts with remarkable skill, taking mostly the unwary, sick or unskilled members of their prey. By removing the weak, they help maintain the balance of nature and ensure the survival of the healthiest animals. Without animals like the Great Blue Heron our ponds and or marshes would become very unstable and many other animals would die off.

Way to go Chad, this is a great action shot, very sharp. How in the world do you critique an image that

    is a contest winner. Congratulations!

What a awesome pose you have in this one...The splashes around the fish and the detail of the entire image is fantastic, DOF is outstanding.

Since that looks like a Pumpkinseed Sunfish, you could have also titled this "Pea Soup with Pumpkinseeds".

Excellent image with great details like the fish, the water droplets, and the weed clinging to the legs.

Chad, the angle of capture here is spot on, and very well timed to capture the heron catching his meal. Tack sharp, and I like the inclusion of the duckweed. Fine image.

Stunning capture...the shooting angle, bird angle, view of the head, the splash, large fish, the wing umbrella, folded leg......killer stuff. yep...definitely contest winning material.

One suggestion is a little crop form the bottom to make a pano crop. I realise that you need to have space for virtual legs and the heron is looking down...but the way it is presented, I find the bottom space a little extra.

All, Thanks for the kind and thoughtful comments, I really appreciate all the feedback from each and everyone of you. below I wanted to include the image that was taken a split second before the above.. its interesting to see how much a split second can change all aspects of a photo.

    Happy Shooting,
    Chad
