    Ian,

I love white bird and on black background. like the composition. Awesome pose and fish is bonus. Did you do any noise reduction on whites? I see bit of a detail loss.

    Excellent job.

Thanks, Sid. No, no NR here at all (shot at ISO 100). I wonder if the reflections of the water on the bird have caused loss of detail on the bird himself.

Possible. In fact details are minute shadows created by feathers and barbs on the feathers. If light is hitting from all directions and minimizing those shadows then image appears with out details.

Ian, what a beautiful image! I agree with Sid's comments; it does seem a slight bit soft but I think he's right about the light being the cumprit. There are a few very small areas of shadow on the bird (neck, back, etc.) that have a very blue cast to them - you might try to desaturate those areas so they appear more gray OR you could go all out and do a black and white conversion since you're almost there anyway!

Lovely HA and pose by the bird. I would also think about toning down the one very bright area on the back front leg.

hey Ian - beautiful picture, and really nice in black and white. The detail does show up better in the B%W. I love the tail feathers touching the water and the wavy reflections of them.
